Saat Shohid-er Mazar, Kalmakanda, Netrokona.

Seven Martyrs’ Mausoleum (Saat Shohid-er Mazar/ SaptaShikha) is located in Phulbari village of Lengura Union, Kalmakanda Upazila, Netrokona District, Bangladesh, near the India-Bangladesh border.  This serene village is situated along the Ganeshwari River. This historical place is located under of the Garo Hills, where there are tombs and memorials of seven brave freedom fighters who were martyred during the Great War of Independence.

Who were these 7 Martyrs?

While the war broke out 7 fighters decided to attack Pakistani forces stationed near Nazirpur market along the Durgapur-Kamalakhanda river route. So they were into making a plan so that they could disrupt the supply of provisions from Birishiri (Netrokona) to the Pakistani camp in Kamalakhanda. On July 26, warriors ambushed all entry points of Nazirpur market.

Unfortunately, the fighters arrived late and began withdrawing their ambush one by one when they suddenly encountered Pakistani troops. A fierce gunfight broke out. Warriors were largely unprepared and Pakistani forces gradually got access into their territory. Despite this, the freedom fighters continued to fight fiercely from morning until afternoon.

As the Pakistani attack intensified, the freedom fighters' commander was injured, which changed the course of the battle. Pakistani troops captured several freedom fighters and killed them with bayonets. Seven freedom fighters—Jamal Uddin, Dr. Abdul Aziz, Fazlul Haque, Iyar Mamud, Bhavatosh Chandra Das, Nuruzzaman, and Dwijendra Chandra Biswas—were martyred in the battle.

On the evening of July 27, the martyrs were buried and cremated at Phulbari, Lengura, on the India-Bangladesh border. This site is now known as the Seven Martyrs’ Mausoleum.
