Ethnic/tribal Cultural Academy is an autonomus institute under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. It is dedicated to preserve the cultural heritage of small tribes such as Hajong, Coch, Dalu, Mandai, Banai and so on living in the larger Mymensingh area. This area is home to around 12,000 indigenous people.
Small ethnic groups are rich in their language, social customs, clothing, food habits, rituals, and traditional culture. Throughout history, much of their cultural heritage has been lost to time.
It is located at Birishiri Durgapur, 37 km from Netrokona.
In 1977, a special project of the Ministry of Culture established an Ethnic cultural academy on about 3.21 acres of land to showcase the culture of small ethnic groups in Bangladesh in the world sphere.
Sis Bibha Sangma was first director of it. Presently, the director of the Tribal Cultural Academy is Jatindra Chisim.
The four branches of the Tribal Cultural Academy—culture, research, library, and museum—are adorned with a variety of plants and shrubs. Numerous antiques and utilized objects from the lives of minor ethnic groups are preserved at the Tribal Museum in two-storeyed. On the academy grounds, there is also a guest house and an auditorium. For tribal cultural events, a sizable population from all across the nation comes here each year.
