Ramsagar Dighi is located in Tezpur village of Dinajpur district. It was name after the King Ramnath, who established this massive water-tank during a period between mid 1750-1755. It is the largest man-made water reservoir in Bangladesh. It occupies 78 acres of land.
The reason behind building such big tank was to meet the scarcity of drinking water. During his rule, there was a persisting crisis of drinking water due to draught. There was no rain for 3 years straight. Therefore, the Raja decided to dig the massive water tank for resolving the perennial crisis of water. According to history, water crisis did not recur after digging of this tank.
This impressive man-made lake, was excavated on a raised terrain and designed in a rectangular shape. Stretching approximately 1,079 meters from north to south and 192.6 meters from east to west, this vast water body stands as a testament to ancient engineering. Historical records suggest that around 1.5 million laborers contributed to its excavation, with the project costing roughly 30,000 Taka—a significant investment in that era.
Currently, it is under the supervision of the tourism department. Ramsagar has 7 picnic corners to ensure picnic facilities.
