Bodeshwari Temple, Panchagarh.

Bodeshwari Temple was built by a king of Coochbihar during British reign. It is one of the ancient archeological sites of Panchagarh. This temple is located in Bodeshwari village of Barashshi union of Boda sub-district of Panchagarh. It is 35 feet long and 18 feet wide. Anyone can make a mistake thinking it’s a mosque from a distant view.

The story of Bodeshwari Temple:

Hindu holy book "Skanda Purana" claims that although Shiva was married to the daughter of King Daksha, Sati, Daksha did not invite Shiva in a religious ceremony that he arranged where he summoned many sages and gods. King Daksha didn’t likes his son-in-law Shiva’s quiet and meditative life.

Sati gave her life when she discovered her father’s insulting behavior towards her husband.

Shiva was filled with grief when she found her wife’s body and started roaming around it on his shoulders, which caused disturbance in the universe.

To calm things down, Lord Vishnu used his divine weapon called the ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ to cut Sati's body into 52 pieces. These body parts fell in different places, and each place became a holy site for Hindus, called a ‘Shakti Peetha’.

It is believed that Sati's ankle fell in Bodeshwari. Because of this, Bodeshwari Temple is considered a sacred place and a holy pilgrimage site for Hindus.

Also, according to an old history book called Tabaqat-i-Nasiri written by Minhaj-i-Siraj, a ruler named Bakhtiar Khalji once took shelter in the Bodeshwari temple while returning from his journey to Tibet.
