Jamalpur Zamindar Bari Jame Mosque, Thakurgaon.

The historic Jamalpur Zamindar House lies in the Jamalpur union of Thakurgaon. Jamal Uddin, the zamindar of this area, laid the foundation of zamindar house in 1862. He received zamindari as he was a descendant of Rowshan Ali, who happens to be the zamindar of the then Tajpur Pargana (present-day West-Bengal, India).

In 1867, a mosque was built adjacent to the zamindar house. Jamal Uddin started the construction work of mosque before he could finish building the zamindar house. But The mosque, named Jamalpur Zamindar Bari Jame Mosque, was so costly to construct that the work on the zamindar house remained unfinished.

Descriptive overview of the Jamalpur Zamindar Bari Jame Mosque:

The Jamalpur Zamindar Bari Jame Mosque is a remarkable 19th-century architectural structure located beside the historic Jamalpur Zamindar House in Thakurgaon, Bangladesh. Built in 1867, this mosque is a testament to the artistic and cultural heritage of the region, blending Mughal and colonial architectural influences.

The mosque features three beautifully carved domes, each adorned with intricate floral and geometric motifs. The central dome is slightly larger, symbolizing its prominence in the mosque’s design. Surrounding the structure are eight octagonal minarets, each soaring up to 35 feet high, creating a striking vertical rhythm that draws the eyes upward. These minarets are not only ornamental but also emphasize the grandeur of the mosque.

The prayer hall is spacious and designed to accommodate between 300 to 600 worshippers, making it a central hub for the local Muslim community. The interior includes elegant archways and traditional mihrabs (prayer niches), while the exterior boasts a roofless veranda, which adds both openness and light to the architectural flow.

A massive, 150-year-old arched gateway marks the entrance to the mosque complex, serving as a historic passage into a place of spirituality and communal gathering. The entire structure is recognized and preserved by the Department of Archaeology of Bangladesh, ensuring its historical and cultural significance is maintained for future generations.

Today, the descendants of the original zamindar family oversee the mosque's upkeep, continuing its legacy as a place of worship and heritage.
